B.L.U.S.H. (Building Leaders and Uplifting Sisterhood) Young Women's Conference

With Assemblymember Gipson's office, we hosted a young women's conference called B.L.U.S.H., which stands for Building Leaders and Uplifting Sisterhood. Our conference was held at the ballrooms of California State University Dominguez Hills (CSUDH). We had hundreds of high school and college girls in attendance, an amazing turnout. It was extremely rewarding to see my hard work over the past months come to fruition, and I loved being able to enjoy the conference with the rest of the office.

Above is a picture of the career panel at the event! The speakers were leaders in the fields of technology, education, social media, a medicine. I was able to learn so much from the panel and am sure the attendees did too.

At 5am, I woke up and went to CSUDH to help set up for the event. The ballroom was filled with circular banquet tables, with program booklets at each seat (which I made!), notebooks, and flower arrangements. Once the event started, I helped with checking in the hundreds of attendees and assigning them to their breakout sessions, which was a part of the event that allowed the girls to learn from industry professional in a more personal setting. I also recited the pledge of allegiance at the beginning of the event (shown below).

My main duties in planning the event included:

  • Coordinating with caterers

  • Creating the program booklet and slideshow

  • Communicating with speakers and panelists

  • Creating the registration form

  • Contacting sponsors

  • Helping with preparing the gift bags

  • Making the promotional material (flyers, social media posts, email blasts)

  • Contacting local organizations to spread the word about the event

  • Preparing the tables the day of the event
